Understanding the journey
We are here because we know how confusing it can be when a loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
We are here because we know how confusing it can be when a loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

Because we understand how difficult it can be to care for your loved one with Alzheimer's, and don't need the added expense of purchasing their personal items, we at Friends for the Alzheimer's Journey, have made it our mission to support communities by providing essential personal items such as adult briefs, incontinence pads, wipes, gloves, barrier ointment and a sticker for your window or door to alert emergency personnel. We are also donating "Out of Harm's Way" kits . These sterile kits are designed by Find M' Friends, a non-profit organization that trains tracking canines. The kits are used to store the person's scent so tracking canines can find them quicker, if your loved one wonders off.
We offer community in person or Zoom meetings twice a month.
All this is because we want to support the caregivers through the journey.
We share trusted information from the National Institutes of Health, Alzheimer's Association, Area Agency on Aging, and Georgia Hospice Care to help locate local elder care resources, and connect families with their state’s Alzheimer’s Association chapters.
Our goal is to serve as an extended family to those affected by Alzheimer’s—offering heartfelt stories, practical advice, and personal “tricks of the trade” to help reduce stress and foster resilience for both caregivers and their loved ones.
Friends for the Alzheimer's Journey Inc was founded in 2025 and has been serving communities in need ever since. Although we are proudly based in Southeast Georgia, we serve all counties in Georgia. We continue to provide compassionate support and essential resources to those affected by Alzheimer's disease.
Friends for the Alzheimer's Journey was founded out of personal experience. I cared for
my mother 24/7 for eight years, with the exception of Sundays when my younger brother sat with her while I went to Sunday school & church, as she navigated the challenges of Alzheimer's disease.
During that time, I realized how important it is for others to begin this journey knowing
they are not alone—there are people in their own communities walking a similar path.
The old saying, sharing is caring; has never felt truer than when caring for a loved one
with Alzheimer's. In the beginning, I had no idea what to expect. The symptoms were
unpredictable and inconsistent, and I made mistakes—thankfully, none that harmed my
mother. It was a learn-as-you-go experience. Some days mom was in a certain stage then the next she had a combination of stages on the same day; some days she really confused me by being herself. Studying all the information on this subject was insightful but I felt all alone.
While speaking with professionals was helpful, I found that connecting with others who
were living—or had lived—the caregiving journey offered a deeper understanding. They
could relate not only to the emotional experience of the person with Alzheimer’s, but
also to my own feelings of isolation, frustration, sadness, and stress.
With all this being said, the costs of her personal items added to my financial strain.
While some states will provide these items through insurance, Medicaid or Medicare, some do not until the person is put on Hospice.
All this is why I created Friends for the Alzheimer's Journey.
